The numbers at a glance

A practical benchmark, not a one-size-fits-all budget.

Wedding costs change with guest count, location, season, priorities, and the team bringing the day together. These figures give couples, planners, and writers a reliable national reference point, while keeping the detail where it belongs: in a plan built for the people and place celebrating.

Methodology and sources

How to read these figures.

Six of the seven figures above come from The Knot’s 2026 Real Weddings Study, a survey of 10,474 U.S. couples married in 2025. The study reports real wedding outcomes, but its averages are national benchmarks, not promises of what any individual wedding will cost.

The median first-marriage ages come from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2025 Current Population Survey estimates. Source dates are shown with every statistic so readers can cite the original research and understand its timeframe.
